Introduced in 1959, the Derbi 74 was created as a quick response to new regulations favoring 74 cc motorcycles, adapting the Derbi 98 for a country in need of simple, affordable and reliable mobility. Powered by a 74 cc, 4 hp two-stroke engine and capable of around 70 km/h, the Derbi 74 embodied light touring, everyday transport and freedom on two wheels. In post-war Spain, bikes like this were everywhere.
This example is a Derbi 74 – 2nd Series (1960), produced until 1962. Its most distinctive feature is the iconic “ant head” headlight, a design that gave its name to an entire generation of Derbi models from the late 1950s and early 1960s. Compared to the first series, it introduced subtle refinements, including a two-seat layout and more streamlined bodywork.
